This is the only Make Your Own Glass project that you can take home the same day. In this introduction to the art of sandblasting, kids of all ages as well as adults can be creative and apply any design to glass cups and dishes using stickers and tape. The glass is then sandblasted, which creates a frosted look by scarring the surface with fine grains of sand propelled by compressed air. Museum staff will explain the sandblasting process and help you and your kids make your sticker design permanent on the surface of the glass. After the sandblasting process is complete, they’ll simply wash the stickers off to reveal the design. No heating or cooling is required for this activity, and you can take it home with you.
